Safeguarding

Child protection, or safeguarding as it is now more broadly termed, is of paramount importance to all health (and non-health) professionals involved in the care of children.  I list here some seminal publications which many of us need to refer to in our everyday practice.  Please note that local safeguarding boards (LSCB) have a statutory requirement to train staff who are working with children in their borough.  The local council houses the LSCB information and each one has a comprehensive, rolling training programme which is free to most learners.  Learning is inter-professional which can be quite an eye-opener in itself.  Most of the monthly Paediatric Pearls newsletters have a text box devoted to safeguarding with links to further training opportunities.
